Junior Jammers sail free - Cruise News - children's travel program - Brief Article
For the seventh year in a row, families with children between the ages of 6 to 12 can set sail for an adventure of a lifetime through the "Junior Jammers" program of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises. From June through August, a Junior Jammer can cruise aboard the sailing vessels Legacy and Polynesia for free when accompanied by two full-fare adults (or for half-fare when accompanied by one adult).
This summer, the Legacy sails four- and five-day cruises from convenient Miami, Florida, to the beautiful Bahamas, and the Polynesia sails six-day cruises from exciting St. Lucia to the exotic French and British West Indies. Both ships provide trained counselors who supervise the children from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (parents are welcome to visit and take their children with them any time during the day). In addition, a baby-sitting service is available after 9 p.m. The ships also have counselors for teenagers (ages 13 to 17).
Junior Jammers and teens enjoy snorkeling safaris identifying tropical fish and SASY (supplied air snorkeling for youths), building monster-size sand castles, helping the captain sail, going on treasure hunts, and dressing up for costume parties. Afternoon activities include story-time, arts & crafts, hair-braiding, and face-painting. Onboard activities such as knot-tying, hoisting sails, and visits to the bridge encourage interaction with the crew and an appreciation for the art of tall-ship sailing. And, when the dinner bell tolls, kids chow down on tasty treats like dinghy dogs, bosun burgers, frigate fries, and sailor spaghetti.
